Yes. With a weakened immunity, you're more likely to catch a cold.

"With an astounding 1100% increase in cases, South Africa only had an 8.32% increase in deaths. Again, at the time, South Africa’s vaccination rate was below 25%. Meanwhile, the United States, with more than double the vaccination rate of South Africa, has nearly twice the new caseload and five times the rate of death from COVID than that of South Africa. That data would suggest that being vaccinated makes you more likely to be infected with Omicron than being unvaccinated."

This guy doesn't seem to be familiar with the research.

The reason the US has more deaths is because we are fatter. It has nothing to do with vaccines. We've known this for over a year: the fatter a country, the more deaths when case loads go up. I'm sure he wouldn't use this excuse in 2020 to explain the increased deaths in proportion to case loads because there were no vaccines in use, then. But now he wants to use it? His blame is arbitrary.

From the research:

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370(20)30208-X/fulltext

"Increased mortality per million was significantly associated with higher obesity prevalence (RR=1.12; 95%CI: 1.06–1.19) and per capita gross domestic product (GDP) (RR=1.03; 95%CI: 1.00–1.06)

...

Rapid border closures, full lockdowns, and wide-spread testing were not associated with COVID-19 mortality per million people."

He further says:

I am sure that we won’t hear about this study in the mainstream media, and the Biden Administration won’t be using this science to form their policy decisions.

Correct. It's a pre-print. Most of the research is corroborated by other preprints but the UK study shows vaccine effectiveness even at the long timer period.

You don't use preprints to inform policy decision. You wait for the peer reviews and publication. There are 3 such studies. All studies call for more data and point out the weaknesses of these studies.

Guess what all 3 studies call for? Booster shots. But you won't see anyone advocating for booster shots on this site or RedState media.

Age is also a factor: South Africa has an age pyramid like a pyramid (elderly population 5.6%), the US has an age pyramid like a ton (elderly population 17%). https://population-pyramid.net/en/pp/south-africa https://population-pyramid.net/en/pp/united-states-of-america

Vaccines are also a factor: Omicron loves vaccinated people if the vaccination is old (3-4 months), that's why they do the booster drive: https://pic8.co/sh/elqcCb.jpg

Age is a huge factor. Before the vaccines started with ADE and driving the under 65 death rate up 70% this year, 65 and up were about 80% of the deaths.

Good point.

I already addressed this. This is a screenshot from the study in the article.
