I have an i3 laptop as my daily that I bought over a decade ago. It runs Niggerball games I like to this day.

I think operating systems minus bloat are optimized big time nowadays. Might have been different in the pre XP days.

I keep a old laptop around for random basic stuff. No reason to get rid of it. Its light, it was cheap and it does what is needed.

Until it doesn’t work, it works. I don’t mind buying a new battery every couple years.

People are too stuck on the "got to be new" thing.

I built a new desktop this year but my old one was damn near a decade old. It has been repurposed for other things in the house and still works just fine. The new desktop will get minor upgrades over the next 10 years and will last just as long. I have always built my computers like this.

Laptops are intended for basic tasks, accessing media, internet, remoting into other systems. If they do that well, I have no reason to replace them.
