I do remember having a tool that helped clear unused ram way back in the early 2000's. It did seem to work for leaky programs.

I have an i3 laptop as my daily that I bought over a decade ago. It runs Niggerball games I like to this day.
I think operating systems minus bloat are optimized big time nowadays. Might have been different in the pre XP days.

I keep a old laptop around for random basic stuff. No reason to get rid of it. Its light, it was cheap and it does what is needed.
