It's time to replace a printer here which is a Samsung SCX-3405 wireless scan + b/w laser printer. HP bought Samsung printing a while back and I don't care for HP consumer level products. I hear great things about Brother.

Here's what I'd like to end up with...

Must have: - Integrated print server - wireless networking - b/w laser printing

Nice to have: - ethernet - duplex printing - integrated power supply (no power brick for the printer)

Could have: - scanner - color ( I won't disqualify for color if it's a good fit, but don't want it)

Must not have: - HP logo or HP printer with different branding

Brother laser printer. Its a MFC so It has a scanner and a fax I have never hooked up but its at least 10 years old now and works great. It won't do if you need color to print but it has ethernet, USB and Wifi and it works well.

Its a MFC-L2700DW. Not sure if that model is still available but the newer version of the same thing should probably work.

Also, It works in Linux with no real configuration. Its auto-detected in Mint/Ubuntu and Fedora.

Oh, I don't know if this is true but I have been told that Brother is basically the only printer manufacture that does NOT use "microdots" for tracking you.

Printing with CUPS then? There is good .ppd support?

Honestly.. It's worked well enough I never bothered to look into it. I used to have to beat printers into submission to get them to work at all in *nix but having it "just work" I have just not really thought about it.
