For Ryzen processors, the ideal is DDR4-3600 MHz with a CAS latency of 16. Without blowing out your budget, 3200MHz at CL16 or 3600MHz at CL18 should be good enough. What you picked is kind of slow, so spend the extra few shekels to get better RAM. Also, what are you going to do about a CPU cooler, power supply and case? Are you planning on using what you already have?

I am upgrading an already existing system. Already have that stuff but I am now thinking about a better cooler.

I see. For a cooler, you can get this one: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hYxRsY/thermalright-peerless-assassin-120-se-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-pa120-se-d3

Apparently it's one of the best air coolers out there, especially for its price. Just make sure your case has space for it (it probably does given you're going for an ATX mobo).

Also, do you have a graphics card that you plan on using? If so, I'd suggest going with the 5700X instead. It doesn't have an integrated GPU like the 5700G does so it's slightly cheaper, but it does have double the L3 cache, which could positively affect your workload if it happens to be cache-heavy.

IIRC get RAM with the max MHz speed to match your mobo.

Buy the the CPU + Motherboard as a unit and build out from there.

I intended to get the combo mobo and proc. Thanks for pointing out the RAM. I cannot believe I missed that but that is why I posted it. Needed a sanity check.

I'd be cautious of that SSD. Never heard of Teamgroup before, and it's on the cheaper side. Not saying don't buy it, just make sure you've got tested backups.

that will do it, but i'd go w/ an older dedicated gpu and slightly more powerful processor. couple hundred bucks will get you plenty of cards capable of 1080p gaming even though you're not looking to. I bet rx480 or 580s whatever are like hundred bucks now
