Tapes are good for long-term linear storage of a lot of bytes, but they're never going to replace the hard drive in your computer. SSD will, but that's still a "hard drive" of sorts, as it looks like one to the OS.
It would be more fair to say "Tapes accelerate the demise of hard disk drives in long-term enterprise storage," but tapes have always been a thing for that. See StorageTek, et. al.
