I was there in ‘89 about two months before the wall came down. We visited both sides (East first and then West). The people on the East side were SO NICE. Like genuinely nice. The guards and cops were dicks, but whatever. I was struck at the animosity of the people on the West side against the PEOPLE on the East side. Like what the fuck they didn’t ask to be trapped. Made me rethink things a little.
Glad the wall came down but overall I don’t think humanity learned the lesson here.
