I don’t get it.

Is it that the gun-ship looks like a kids’ toy?

I didn't really get it either but I guess the Blue guy of "Guntron" was the actual projectile used to kill Skorpex (which removed the Blue guy in the process) and the Green guy realized what happened and that he was the next projectile.

Yes if you look at their face expressions it's kind of funny. Blue guy is wondering wtf they're thinking using him as a bullet, Green guy see's blue guy explode and wonders same the thing.

i believe this was supposed to be a transformer joke but the artist was an originalist.

I think this is pre transformer, I remember the cartoon in the 70's but forget the name of it. They had smaller space ships that would join together and form larger robot ship that was like a giant tiger or dragon.
