How long did it take you to get decent with mandarin? I’m thinking I’m gonna need at least 3k hours before I’m even a quarter-way competent.

IIRC something around 2~3 years, but that was decades ago.

Also, the Chinese dude pictured would be laughing his ass off instead of being angry. That is the most common error students do when learning Mandarin.
