Welcome to the shitshow of governments providing housing. This is a small town, so less chances for fraud and grift, and yet they’re $5 mil short of their expectations. Someone lost their job for lying (no deets on that so not sure it’s tied to this project, but based on the mess I’d guess it is), people who wanted to buy or rent and move in are on hold because the HOA docs have to be approved by some govt entity and there’s also a 30 day waiting period.

My second fav part of this story is the complaints that the realtor will be paid, increasing the cost of the housing for people. Duh! That’s how all real estate sales work. That’s how everything works. The buyer pays for all costs, because no one is in business to lose money, and someone has to pay expenses. Ultimately, that falls on the purchaser. It’s like people don’t know how the economy works. Money isn’t magical stuff that you can “manifest”, if you buy something, you’re paying for workers, materials, software, legal reviews, etc. everything has a cost, and the person who wants that product, thing or service will be the one paying those costs.

Their housing is affordable in the same way that Spirit Air is an affordable option for flying or Carnival Cruises is an affordable option for going on a cruise. You get what you pay for.
