That sucks, I wonder what happened. Maybe exposure? Maybe they offed each other? No details yet.

From the post:

>The bodies of two hunters who went missing in southern Colorado last week have been found, family members said. According to the Conejos County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Andrew Porter from Asheville, North Carolina, and 25-year-old Ian Stasko from Salt Lake City, Utah, went missing near the Rio de los Pinos Trailhead while hunting elk. Porter's aunt, Lynne Runkle, said the two had not been heard from since Sept. 11, and their satellite device was not working.

Was that their phone? I lose service 5 feet into most trailheads because of the trees and rocks.

Now an epirb should’ve worked if they activated it and had kept up with factory battery replacement and testing.

If you look at the pic it looks like they have one of those purpose built gps/sat beacons.

These are not just for avalanches anymore, they even have 2-way texting as well too. I have family that likes to camp-out and have some medical issues that make that harder. They carry something similar as a just in case thing.

Oh one of those, I’ve never trusted those.

I carry two epirbs one on my belt and the other on my backpack pack strap and make sure both or up to date with maintenance and random tests.

It’s a crazy world out there, accidents, slips, falls, animals and crazy people.

I had to stop going to my favorite spot my dad started taking us to as kids. I don’t even know what they’re called but they do meth, think they own the state land because they have a dilapidated shack/house close to it, they’re violent and don’t want you around and would have no problem disappearing you out there.

It’s extremely isolated and you could tell they were getting agitated we were hiking the paths etc.

The last time out there me and my son barely made it out. It almost turned into a gun fight and the only reason they backed down at the last second is I believe they saw me being calm and just staring, no reaction, they didn’t know what I was capable of but I scared them enough and little did they know my son was about 2 seconds from drawing his concealed gun and popping them(he was 14 then). I was trying to diffuse them and make sure my son didn’t panic and do something rash but justified. That was it, he won’t go back and neither will I.

That's fucked. I have to assume you are out south east somewhere? Or you know... Some very other specific parts around a few major "blue" metro.

There is shit like that near where I am. We don't bother to hike in the area anymore. Too many people and too many crazies. When we get the fuck out of this hellhole maybe ill be able to take some good pics that don't include a bunch of meth heads hiding in the woods and random needles.
