New state law limiting how much counties can extract directly from citizens prompts counties to brainstorm how to indirectly extract more cash.

It’s always about how to get more in taxes and fees and never about cutting the fat out of bureaucracy and waste. Now they’re trying to “creatively” tax economic drivers. Most of Colorado is driven by tourism, so they’re looking at ways to tax tourists. Daily ski passes exceed $250, but hey, let’s add an additional tax or fee onto that ticket since we can’t gouge property owners as much as we had been.

Lodging taxes now go to funding daycare, they used to go to marketing our county, to bring in more tourists. Sales tax is already ridiculously high, tourists are complaining about the high taxes already, now let’s add more on top, but we’re not going to fix roads so that the tourists can get here safely, gotta provide housing and daycare to the illegals and their anchor babies instead.

Here's an idea. Abolish the income taxes there and implement a reasonable state sales tax with reasonable fees on certain activities. Nailing tourists isn't unheard of and they won't be around long enough to complain. This model would allow for predictable income for budgeting and prevent liberal fucktards from spending money they don't have.

The problem is the “reasonable” part. For them it’s reasonable to tax you to death so that they can grift millions off the backs of taxpayers.

You can't bank on taxes from tourists. All it takes is an economic problem (2007/2008) to wreck everything.

It's the California Problem. The public employee unions are donating to political candidates that are doing their bidding (higher wages, better benefits, more workers) no matter what. That equates to wages and benefits becoming more and more of the budgets. California passed a proposition decades ago that ensured 51% of the state budget went to education...currently, over 51% of that is going to wages and benefits. Ang that's only growing.

The solution was increase and pass more taxes...voters caught on, so they started passing "fees"...voters are/have caught on. Surprisingly, there's a max rate of what the sales tax can be, so if you're visiting and are confused by the sales tax and all you did was change cities...yes, that's why. There's areas where they had to rescind certain sales taxes because of new taxes passed...by idiot (((voters))).
