I have seen too many stories of someone that is "homeless" begging on the street just for them to walk a few blocks away to get into a new BMW or something. In the Denver metro something like 3 of these were reported and recorded on video in the last year and a half. These people sometimes make as much as $80k/yr (completely untraced, in cash and untaxed) just by begging at a popular spot.

From the post:

>A Colorado county has attempted to tackle homelessness and street-begging by placing signs with a blunt message on the corners and roads that were once flooded with panhandlers. 'Handouts don't help' reads the signs meant to stop people from giving money directly to homeless people in Douglas County. A link on the 70 signs throughout the area prompts people to make donations on the Douglas County Community Foundation website. This foundation helps connect people in need with helpful resources.
