Sure, this is for "decks and balconies" (sounds list mostly apartments/condos) but its still sucky.

From the post:

>More and more homeowners associations in Colorado's mountain communities are rewriting their policies to ban the use of gas grills by residents as insurance companies increasingly say they won't insure HOAs that allow residents to use gas grills on their decks or balconies. "It is going to impact tens of thousands of people who live in condo associations," said David Firmin, an attorney whose law firm represents some 2,500 HOAs, primarily in the mountains.

This is how tyranny starts.

So they get rid of propane, land charcoal is basically useless all summer due to red flag laws. Neat.

This is one more reason why I won’t buy into an HOA. And I despise insurance companies, their business model is to take your money and do everything they can to not provide the contracted service. Insurance companies are grifters, if it weren’t mandatory to buy insurance the rates would be affordable. Taking away grills is just one more way they’re trying to take away small joys so that our lives will just be pure misery w no bright spots. They already make charcoal grills prohibited in condo complexes and apartments.

Just for example, if I negotiate w the staff at a doctor’s office my charge is less than my copay & I don’t use my insurance. Negotiating w a dentist makes all services less than what dental insurance premiums cost, and those dental insurers don’t cover 100% nor every procedure.

You make a good point. Some offices are more than happy to charge less if you don't go through insurance and on top of it, if you can pay "cash" (wire transfer or check) rather than credit they often will cut the price even more.

Why does an HOA need insurance?

This is probably for condos. Most condos the entire building is a HOA since there are shared things like AC/Water/etc.

You're going to regret this. All they wanted to do is grill.

ALL THEY WANTED TO DO WAS GRILL!

I understand some reasons for this because I have found a remarkable amount of stupid people exist and probably will burn the damn building down.

However, if you are on a lower level and have a concrete or paved area you can use a grill its just stupid.

Using a charcoal grill on a wood balcony on the 3rd floor though? Yeah, you are probably a fucking moron and might kill everyone in the building.
