From the post:
"The Aurora City Council is expected to pass a few ordinances that will crack down on retail theft in Monday night’s meeting.
This builds on an ordinance passed in 2023 and takes a tougher stand on theft in the city of Aurora.
Pete Schulte, the city attorney, said Aurora has seen a large spike in retail theft while numbers for every other crime has decreased.
Right now, there is a mandatory minimum jail sentence of three days for retail theft of $300 or more. One new ordinance would lower that bar to $100. It would also increase jail time for repeat offenses. "
