The fact that this was a haven for weed seekers increased our homeless problem because other states didn’t legalize at the time. And yes, alcoholism is the most common addiction that leads to homelessness. People turn to drugs to cope, we need to address the underlying problems, but that’s too difficult, because it is the root of society’s problems and is HUGE.
I had a job at one point working with the homeless. I quickly learned its a lifestyle choice of no responsibility. The majority dont want to work, and live normally. The only homeless that even need help are the mentally ill, and they should be in institutions.
I think we should let them live that lifestyle, but I don’t want to pay their welfare, allow them to destroy the parks that I pay for, or pay for their healthcare. But I do think that providing institutions for the mentally ill and addicts is money well spent.
