Oh man, I wish I got a notification when someone posts on my s/poals so I could comment in a proper amount of time. I remember watching a video where someone was using hot sand to heat that thing up and it looked pretty satisfying but, you have a point, there's a big difference between people who evolved to use sand to cook their coffee than folks who made robots to do it all for them.
