Maybe they are meant to discourage Sam Brinton (archive.is) from stealing them.

After air traveling once recently, I learned your suitcase is going to get stacked and thrown and all that. I had a plastic tube of shaving cream you lather up. It opened up and shot out some contents in a clear plastic zipper compartment made to take slime. My beard trimmer got turned on and ran itself dead.

If you just buy a high quality suitcase (will be expensive) it will look like this soon enough, but still serve you for decades. I got my primary travel bag in maybe 2005 and still use it. Briggs and Reilly will repair for you at your local lodge repair shop at no charge for ever no matter what happens to it or why.

Same here. I’ve had a Briggs and Reilly bag for about 20 years. You pay more but it lasts.

I am still quietly hoping to make the "turbofan ingestion" repair claim for my suitcase.

'pre-torn jeans' comes to mind.
