I was born and raised in CA. When I left in the early 2010s, the middle class was no longer a thing. There were 3 classes of people.
People who had bought land prior to the 80s and had shared and passed it to family members so their cost of living was just utilities.
The super rich who came in, bought land, plowed the house, and rebuilt it using "tax credits" to build these green shit places that are an eye sore.
The people who bought or rent a plot 0f land, and then live 3-5 generations of family in said location. Between the 15-25 people living there, the cost of living was mitigated. This was, by and large, Mexican and Asian families. My next door neighbor's whom I grew up with on both sides both sacrificed their back yards to place living spaces and parking lots in their back yards so their kids, now grown, could have a place for THIER kids while the parents were now the retired monarchs in the main house.
It's beginning to become like this in almost all other blue states I have watched as well. It's sickening.
