I'm saying anything you can do to generate electricity the electric company can do better. "Hur dur shoulda bought 69 giggawatts of solar 5 years ago" is not a valid argument.

Of course they can, but you're forgetting the part where they mark it up to sell to you and then you pay taxes on it. Even expensive solar is far cheaper than utility electricity in many places.
