This part of how they plan to make sure that you have a "car subscription". You wont need to replace that car.. You just have to pay a subscription to be allowed to be in a car at all. I am sure there will be some subscription levels too. Probably wont change what kind of car you get much but it will change if you can actually get one when you need it even if you schedule in advance.

"Oh, sorry. Your neighbor has a gold level subscription so we gave the care that you planned for 2 weeks in advance to them at a 2 minute notice. Would you like to learn how you can upgrade to gold level"?

If people are willing to pay small biz will make battery packs for these cars.

Electric car makers are now using serialized battery packs. You won't be able to use a 3rd party battery because the car's firmware doesn't have the matching serial number. Hacking or replacing the firmware violates the DMCA so you will now be a criminal for trying to get the car you "own" working again. They will also shut down any 3rd party battery makers for DMCA violations and safety/security concerns as well. They have all the bases covered. We're fucked unless we remember how to use rope the right way to solve our problems.

You are right, the remaining comments simply know nothing on current tech

If I may add, "making" anything "custom" for a car costs an incredible amount of money, thanks to regulations, so, even a small company cannot reasonably make anything that is remotely compatible.

Probably for cheaper and almost as high quality too.

Exactly what I was thinkin.

Time to learn how faggot EVs work now I guess.

I'm surprised they allow you to replace the battery at all. They should follow the Apple model, and make you throw your car away when your battery starts to fail to hold a charge.

The part that they don't tell you is that a replacement battery will cost you between $13,000 and $20,000. A new gasoline engine is between $2,500 and $5,000. Unless it is a Corvette at $14,000. And that is even if they make the battery still. They only have to make parts for 10 years after the model is discontinued. If you want an electric car because it can haul ass on about a $1 a gallon equivalent, then my suggestion is to lease one. Of course that could run you $1,500 a month for a Tesla Model S.

The future is stupid

Only if we let stupid people run it.

The battery drain and replacement system is the main reason I hate electric cars.

My fuel tank right now will give me almost the same miles at 5 or 150,000 miles.

From day 1 the range of electric cars drops every day you use it. Absolute garbage.

At least Tesla batteries are million mile batteries on the new chemistry.

And the new chemistry gets 100% recycled into a new battery.

Aptera AWD 1k for me, you dollars dictate.

Co-founder of Tesla that left the company is working on this impending issue of used batteries.

If they work off car batteries and not lithium ion.

They can be repurposed.
