I fear that my 12-year-old son, who has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, is addicted to video games

His "attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder" which basically means he's a kid. He needs to be outside building tree forts and fighting other kids his age. This will wear him out enough for when you call him in for dinner when the street lights come on. Key phrase here "street lights". If the kid gets his ass beat enough for not showing up at this time to eat, beat him more. Your a single mother and a millenial so I'm guessing you don't cook.

how do I encourage him to get out and try other activities without nagging?

Here hold my beer. This one's easy. Turn off the router to the internet. Then go grab a broom. When he starts yelling from his room that his 50 inch monitor says no internet connection and demands you fix it. Ignore the faggot male him stomp out of his room and sit silently on the couch next to you while folding his arms huffing and puffing. It gets even easier after this. Ask him what's wrong and depending on his mental state he'll either calmly or austistically start yelling. At this stage if he's calm firmly hand him a broom or mention the yard needs to be mowed, he's 12 if he can't operate a lawnmower at this age just start buying him dresses. Tell him you got 3 choices the yard or the broom or you go outside and play video games aren't an option. If he starts yelling just stare at him until he stops then ask him if he's don't acting like a 35 year old Instagram thot then tell him go rake the leaves.

Simple.
