Teach kids how to construct these more complex equations in an excel sheet with proper labels.

I use math almost every day at work.some simple, sometomes more complicated. Usually, when something requires complex math, this is where it ends up. That way you have a tool to simplify future use.

One example is calculating the pull out force of a screw. Do it in excel and you will have a much easier time comparing materials and engagement lengths

Yes, true, but the point of calculus is not just to give you a tool to solve a problem

It is to actually measure who is capable of abstract thought and formal modeling

formal modeling of reality is hard and you really wish people in charge to know what they are doing

So, USA will not have the people able to predict the consequences of choices, because.... the school has not weed them out (the useless ones)

Math course have always been the "weed out" classes for the science/engineer/chemistry tracks and biology classes for the medical tracks. When I went through school, they forced us to at least finish college algebra and computer science, both math classes with computer science basically using a programming language to write programs to solve calculus problems. Now it's just a two week boot camp class on java or php and throw them into a coding job where the depend on google to do their jobs.

Most of the problem is that people making the decisions are not capable of the thinking required for math, if they were they probably would not be school admin or politicians.

Students need to segregate on ability. yes, that means that it will happen along sex and race lines; this is how it has always been because that is how humans function.

Translation: Traditional calculus is racist against blacks & hispanics, so we need to water down White standards to be more "inclusive".
