The source article from 1968 doesn't convey that at all. He is entirely complimentary about Hendrix.

Its as if the author hoped his readers would not actually read the source material.

Here is the difference. Clapton has nothing to gain by talking about problems with vax. In fact its to his detriment. Thats how you know its worthwhile to listen.
