Easy, clean suicide? Maybe a quick death was preferable to being left behind and what was coming for them. Without any means to painlessly off themselves available on the tarmac, they might have resorted to just piling on and then hanging on for a few seconds so the plane could get some height and then let gravity and the ground do their thing.

No.. Look at them. They honestly think they can just sit there while the airplane speeds up to a few hundred miles per hour and heads up to cruising altitude. None will survive. Plenty will claim someone they knew said someone they knew lived and they will keep trying to do it if they can.
