It was carefully constructed. One characteristic of humans is they find novel/unique things appealing, whether it be people who are unique/interesting, fashions, technology, entertainment etc. Which is good when it comes to innovation. So when they append "phobia" to the end, it subliminally says "this person is afraid of change, afraid of new ideas, does not like novelty". It's basically a fancy way of calling someone untrendy. It's really curious and interesting how such a crude tactic is so incredibly effective. Terror over not being considered up to date with the latest trends.
