I'll debate you:

We need law enforcement and national defense to be government run and centralized because otherwise they will be replaced by mercenaries and the whole place will devolve into feudal states warring with one another and serfdom for most of those who live in them. We need things to be impartial and universally applicable.

We need taxes to fund these services, and they are morally justified by the fact that everyone sees benefit from them in that the service they provide is what makes their country a country.

Can we agree on this?

I'll debate you:

Sure, let's go

We need law enforcement and national defense to be government run and centralized because otherwise they will be replaced by mercenaries and the whole place will devolve into feudal states warring with one another and serfdom for most of those who live in them.

Thing is, that argument could be made against any system "what if the army just take over." My answer to that is that community militias consisting of the majority of able men in the community offers the most stable solution: Who would they overthrow? Themselves?

We need things to be impartial and universally applicable.

I don't see any reason why that couldn't happen in voluntary community. If you sign up to the "caucasian-brotherhood" legal code then it applies to you as much as to anyone else.

Granted, it won't apply to a neighbouring community if they sign up to a different legal code, but that situation already exists with nation states, it's nothing new and the existence of separate countries doesn't automatically result in feudal balkanisation.

We need taxes to fund these services, and they are morally justified by the fact that everyone sees benefit from them in that the service they provide is what makes their country a country.

And how's that working out? Everyone in the US is required to pay taxes to fund the military (among other BS). This military does not secure the nation or it's borders, instead it fights for a foreign nation. The ones who are supposed to be securing the borders are opening them to the invaders.

By contrast, if the military was a voluntarily funded community organisation (as it was always meant to be) any corrupt units would lost their funding and corrupt wars would simply not be supported.

My idea is different, let's take a scientific approach to politics.

Use the scientific method to determine political policy.

Obeseve how every policy change being considered functiona in a microcosm before applying it to the whole rest of the country.

Obeseve how every policy change being considered functiona in a microcosm before applying it to the whole rest of the country.

It's a good idea. My system achieves that too: Every community is free to adopt any system or regime they like. Every other community is then free to replicate the success of the functional ones, and avoid the failure of the non-functional ones.

The difference is that instead of a single central group of plutocrats making that decision, it's the people themselves.
