My hybrid gets ~50 mpg and it's fucking awesome.

Thats what makes those more practical than electric right now. You have to own a home or have a dedicated parking space with charger to keep refueling batteries to avoid the inevitable 1 hour to 75% charge

Yeah, Lithium mining is still highly destructive. Regardless, lots of copper is needed for an electric car as well, motors and battery conductors are all copper wound.

In fairness, gas cars are full of copper too. Starter motors and alternators all need copper windings.

If you want energy independence, you are in favor of lithium batteries in your house and your car and solar panels on your roof. Because, otherwise, you are dependent on an oil logistics supply chain which is outside your control.

Energy Independence = Producing the energy on your own property using infrastructure you own.

Why pick? Both have their strengths and weaknesses. But only ev can be charged with wireless electricity. No such thing as wireless fueling.
