I love getting into it with idiots that recycle. I work with this one woman who freaks out of I throw a box in the regular trash. I told her that I used to live near the huge tree groves near Portland. I saw the system they use for harvesting. It's literally as sustainable and eco friendly as you can get. The act of recycling paper is a waste s time and electricity. She got pissy and could only mutter that I just don't understand.

There used to be a mill in the town I grew up in, my father and grandfather worked there. They still exist, but the point is the company had a forestry division where they would plant their own fast-growing trees (white pine, etc.) and harvest them for the mills.

They didn't do it because it was ecologically friendly, although that was certainly a side benefit. They did it because having your own dedicated supply of material for nothing more than the cost of putting it in and removing it from the ground was good, sustainable business.

Exactly. These idiots seriously believe that the evil loggers just chop down forests whilly nilly. When I tried to explain that land isn't free and it's far more economically feasible to replant and cultivate your own tree groves than attempt to purchase new land Everytime you need new trees, they laughed at me and told me to watch these videos about rain forest deforestation. It's literally apples to oranges.

Considering rain forests are being cut for farming…and every time we do that we find human building remains….equals people are morons.

Aluminum recycling is the only recycling that is not a scam.

Correct. Metals in general are the only one due to the work and resources needed to do it. Plastic, paper, and glass are all time and energy sinks that do not improve or help the supply chain issues. Worse still, in the case of glass, they basically need to use brand new silica in order to reform the bottles, basically making the entire process of recycling moot.

People always used to hate it when I would throw empty bottles of whiskey into the ocean, but forreal, where do they think sea glass comes from?
