The most revealing scene of Home Alone 2 is the conversation between the mother and the policeman. The (black) officer says they can't help. But then admits he'd be doing the same thing as her if he were in her shoes. Then he asks where she would go if she were him. 'I'd be lying dead in a ditch,' she says. But not him. He's much stronger than her and can handle anything. But all that is beside the point because he doesn't deserve this! Meanwhile, Macaulay Culkin, who up until this point seems to be having a blast, suddenly appears much more sympathetic. For are we not mostly lost boys laughing at a reality we don't deserve?
