According to my research, the "Pilgrim's Promise" refers to the key Promise from John Bunyan's book The Pilgrim's Progress, consisting of the promise of the Gospel and eternal life through Christ. Apprarently this book is popular among protestants.
She told me according to her understanding is that everyone carries around a bundle of burdens and keep adding to it.
That baffled me because I was always taught that Jesus forgives us and we must forgive ourselves for our own mistakes. Not carry them around like an invisible weight.
Hence why it sounds jewish/stupid to me.
We all have our own cross to bear. Perhaps these "bundles of burden" are the weight of sin pressing the heart and soul. We do not forgive ourselves per se, rather we walk a lifelong journey of repentance in preparation for theosis.
