I often try to pray for people I don't like, because I have been told this in important, and it makes sense, those who spread misery and pain often suffering in ways that are difficult for normal people like us to imagine. Why should this not apply to the Devil/Satan?

It’s an interesting question. However, the Bible is descriptive about how to pray and for whom to pray. We are encouraged to pray for other PEOPLE in numerous passages.

The Bible does not instruct to pray either for or to an Angel. Fallen or otherwise. Nether does it state to pray to dead people.

When Jesus met the devil in the desert, he cast him away- he didn’t pray for him.

Angels are made differently than man, so bear in mind that Jesus died for man’s sin. It does not state that this includes angels. As God is perfect he demands retribution for sin. The devil has no recourse given what’s stated in the Bible in this regard. I take this to mean that he is unforgivable.

Pray for those who can be redeemed, not those who by their own wilful choices remain irredeemable.

Because if the devil found his way back to the light and love of God, religion would be out of business.
