Hegelian Dialectic (pic8.co)

[–] 1 pt

I don't understand where this extrapolation of the Hegelian Dialectic comes from. The H.Dialectic is about a process of debate/reasoning wherein a hypothesis, antithesis and objective analysis are used to form a reasoned synthesis. It is framework for anti-rhetorical reasoning, not a political method of manipulation. This kind of pseud-philosophy is not a good look imo.

The dynamic being described is simply the age-old tactic of ruling via fear. No need to pretentiously dress it up.

You don't see how controlling two sides of a debate in order to narrow the possible modes of thought in regard to the topic is relevant to the idea of the Hegelian Dialectic?

No. If anything the idea of the Hegelian Dialectic is to broaden the mode and content of reasoning by avoiding rhetoric, considering the antithetical viewpoint and reconciling it all with an objective (as much as possible) analysis. It is explicitly anti-rhetorical and pro-reason, whereas the kind of manipulation you are describing relies almost exclusively upon rhetoric and the subversion of reasoning.

Saying something is "not a good look" unironically

You're right, I should've just said "is retarded".

Known advertising trick.

Normally done with three items. First item useless but cheap. The second two have a useful amount of features but compared to each other one isn't worth the price. So you always go with the middle item, which is their goal.

e.g. Yeti coolers. All of a sudden a $120 cooler doesn't seem so bad. AT LEAST I DIDN'T SPEND $750?!?!?!
