Not trying to derisive, but for those who care: This is a Seventh-day Adventist Church organization. (I'm saying this in part because this was pretty well hidden in their main website ... the longer I have to search for the "parent" org ... the more curious I become in wondering why they are trying to down play it.)

I'd postulate that they hold about 75% of the beliefs of a trad (conservative) protestant church. Most obvious difference is that they believe we are called to corporate worship on Saturday, and hold the "Sabbath" holy like the Jews do. They also have some 'interesting' beliefs on pre Biblical history and Eschatology (end times doctrine). Some of which are based on the (self proclaimed) prophecies of Ellen White who lived ~200 years ago.

Personally I struggle with all Christians (not just Seventh-day Adventist) who want to be hyper literal on some parts of the Old Testament (e.g. corporate worship must be observed on Saturday, tithing is a literal 10% of income, etc.) but completely ignore other old testament commandments (eating pork, women on their period are unclean and anything they touch becomes unclean, etc.) It ends up being pretty arbitrary and then you send weeks studying different translations and word origins to validate why you can be literal in some areas and not in other areas.

Again, not trying to be derisive. I'm just always curious about frames of reference. (And, I can probably predict what his conclusions will be made after 3.5 hrs of lecture. ;) )

Not trying to derisive,

InB4 nobody was remotely likely to accuse or even assume?

Walter is 100% openly and emphatically SDA.

Your denomination/alliegence is unstated anywhere, so by your own definition your comments are moot?

they believe we are called to corporate worship on Saturday, and hold the "Sabbath" holy like the Jews do.

As commanded in the bible repeatedly, and never countermanded, not even once.

(self proclaimed) prophecies of Ellen White who lived ~200 years ago.

Admittedly I’m no expert on Ellen White, but I seem to remember a quote of her saying that she didn’t call herself a prophet, even though the acknowledged definition included anyone speaking aloud the words of scripture.

Was there a moratorium on prophecy ~ 200 years ago?

Sounds like you are able to elucidate a range of the commandments clearly and succinctly.

It ends up being pretty arbitrary and then you send weeks studying different translations and word origins to validate why you can be literal in some areas and not in other areas.

[see the last thing you said ;) ]

The instruction to pray for guidance is clear enough.

Again, not trying to be derisive. I'm just always curious about frames of reference. (And, I can probably predict what his conclusions will be made after 3.5 hrs of lecture. ;) )

Not worth watching but worth commenting on at length and in detail in order to dismiss. Hmmm

Meh. I'm not familiar with this presenter, so I was curious. Had to look it up. You may be a fan, but it isn't obvious to the casual observer.

(To be blunt ... I wasn't familiar with the acronym "SDA" ... Had to look that up. Clearly you are far more familiar with the organization than I.)

Not worth watching but worth commenting on at length and in detail in order to dismiss. Hmmm

Wasn't being dismissive. Was making a prediction. Was actually watching it in chunks as my day allows while working on other tasks.

In truth, Biblical and church history is an interesting topic for me; I'm always open to new perspectives.

Your denomination/alliegence is unstated anywhere, so by your own definition your comments are moot?

I have none. My comments are worth what you paid for them. I'm sorry you took this personally. Was not my intent.

Funny ... I just realized ... you are probably a member of the "SDA" and this maybe something you consider as "outreach" on your Sabbath. Sorry, but that's funny.

Funnier still I had to look up “outreach”. Looks like you’re the expert :)
