I regularly read from New Living Translation, but for study I prefer the Septuagint and a KJV.

The Septuagint is easily 800 years older than the Masoretic text. I think the KJV is great for the NT for for the OT there are some pretty stark differences.

Why does it call eating pork an abomination?

For the same reason homosexuality is. Because God said so. Any reason beyond that is speculating on the text.

>My view, and that of the OT is that homosexuality and eating bacon are on the same level. I avoid both.

I understand about the pork and unclean etc. but there are degrees of sin and these two wouldn't be on the same level.

Eating pork would only go against an 'informed' or instructed conscience whereas sodomy causes a greater combustion in the mind and soul as it goes more against nature, against an uninformed conscience.

Isn't that correct?

Do you keep the Sabbath Day?

Yes.

They are both described as an abomination. Strictly interpreted, there is no reason to consider one worse than the other. There are recorded instance of people giving thir lives to avoid eating unclean things. Isaiah 66 refers to eating unclean things being something that brings instant judgement on the day of the Lord.

You keep the Sabbath like the Jews did?

>Strictly interpreted, there is no reason to consider one worse than the other.

That's not correct, and I explained why.

Edit: Never mind, someone else answered already. Why would God say no to eating pork?
