16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Corinthians 3 KJV

Taking that passage literally presents some problems. Defiling the temple is a death penalty offense. Many common actions make us unclean for temple worship.

From another angle, Paul says this phrase about our bodies being the temple more than once. Both times the immediate context was admonishing the Corinthians for having sex with temple prostitutes.

From another angle, a metaphorical interpretation is awesome because then Peter is agreeing Paul when he says we are LIVING STONES. It is a rich phrase, but the very necessity of putting "living" before "stones" is to establish that the Spirit dwells within us.

I get what you are saying though, and I am skeptical that a third temple will be built in Jerusalem. I think it is more likely that the tabernacle will be set up for official use. I absolutely do not find any evidence to support the idea that our bodies are the literal stand in for the temple.

I think this is why we need to die to ourselves, and be born again in Jesus who clearly portrayed himself as the temple.

19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body. John 2 KJV

56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. John 6 KJV

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14 KJV

I think they may try to raise a building on the temple mount, but I suspect that God will thwart their efforts.
