10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10 KJV)

The purpose of God coming to earth as Jesus was to seek and save the lost people, and to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). He did not come to seek the righteous on this earth, but the sinners (Matthew 9:13) and this upset the religious Jews greatly, as they could not understand how Jesus could eat and associate with sinners, while condemning them for their hypocrisy (Matthew 12:34). The religious Jews were all about serving God and keeping all the commandments of the Law, but their heart was all wrong (Matthew 15:8), as they were all about their own righteousness, and did not see that they needed the righteousness of Jesus to be right with God.

It is a wonderful fact that Jesus came to save us sinners, and if you don’t know that you are a sinner, then you can’t be saved. Many people think they are righteous in their own life, and don’t need a Savior, but all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23). The Law was given through Moses, to show us that we can not earn right standing with God by our keeping of the Law, as no matter how good you are, you can not keep all aspects of the Law. If you fail in any one point, you are guilty of breaking the whole Law (James 2:10). You must believe in Jesus for His righteousness to be given you and to be acceptable to God (Isaiah 64:6). Be sure Jesus is your Savior, and praise Him every day.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Matthew 23 KJV
