Daily Devotional

December 31

13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. - 1 John 3:13-15 (KJV)

We are not to be surprised that the world hates us, who are serving the Lord, as it hated Jesus when He was here, and it will hate us who now represent Him on earth (John 15:18-19). The world and the devil really don’t hate us Christians, but it still hates Jesus who lives in us, and our light that shines out into this dark world, and exposes all the sin it has.

If we love each other, as Jesus told us to (John 13:34), then we know that we have passed from death unto life, meaning that we know we are truly born again. The bible uses death to signify the devil, and life to signify Jesus and it represents us being born again. If we are full of God, we will be full of love, as He is love (1 John 4:16), and we will love all our brothers and sisters in Christ. You can’t be full of God without loving others.

If you hate your brother, or sister, then John is saying you are the same as a murderer, as how you think in your heart, so you are (Proverbs 23:7). If you hate others, you can not truly be born again, and saved. If you do find that you can not forgive your brother, and you hate them, you need to get born again, and full of God’s love. Thank you Jesus for giving us the ability to love others, even our enemies, but hate the devil and all that he does (Ephesians 4:26-27).
