The Old Testament is full of examples of the stiff-necked Israelites whoring after false gods and adopting the practices of their wicked neighbors. God would then send a prophet to warn them to knock it off, but most wouldn't listen. God would then let them learn the hard way from a foreign or domestic tyrant. Those of us with ears to hear already got the memo and don't need a tyrant appointed over us for educational purposes.
