34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. - Luke 1:34-35 (KJV)
The Christmas Story continues. This was a normal question to ask, and it did not show unbelief on Mary’s part. Zacharias, John the Baptist father, asked the angel a similar question (Luke 1:18), and was struck dumb, and unable to speak, until John was born, because he asked in unbelief, not believing what the angel told him. It is not wrong to question God on how to do something, if your question is for your understanding, and not because you don’t believe God. I believe any virgin woman would want to know how she could possibly become pregnant, without a man being involved. Historians say that Mary was a teenager at this time, and she puzzled at the fact that she would be the mother of Jesus, the Messiah.
This is one of the most profound statements in the bible, for who but God, would have come up with the Holy Ghost being the father of Jesus. Even though Isaiah prophesized it would happen (Isaiah 7:14), I don’t think anyone believed it until now. What an awesome God we have, and how marvelous His way of thinking must be. Jesus was truly the Son of God, as God through the Holy Ghost actually fathered Him, and that means that the very blood of God flowed in the veins of Jesus as the father is the one that determines the blood type of his offspring. Jesus, being called the Son of God, was not symbolic, as some have tried to say, but was an actual fact, as shown by this scripture. Praise God for His plan of redemption for us, His creation.
