10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. - 1 John 5:10 (KJV)
John is telling us that when we are believers in Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit in us as a witness to let us know that we are in Jesus, and He is in us. The Holy Spirit bears witness to not only Jesus, but to the Father, and will help us to understand spiritual things, like the bible. Jesus called the Holy Spirit “the Comforter”, and He sure is that (John 14:26), as He gives us guidance and assures us of our salvation, as long as we don’t blasphemy Him or disobey Jesus (Hebrews 5:9). Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a serious sin (Matthew 12:31-32), and that means refusing His direction in our lives, as that is rebelling against Jesus being your Lord. We receive our direction in life, as a born again believer, by the Holy Spirit, and He brings all of what Jesus has commanded us to do, to our attention, and we must obey Him. See “New Revelations” page on our web site for more information on blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
If you don’t believe in Jesus, you are calling God a liar, as God gave witness to Jesus being His Son (Matthew 3:17), and if you don’t believe it, then you can not obtain salvation. Jesus said that He was the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and those that teach otherwise are mistaken, as the bible makes it clear that you must put your faith in Jesus to be saved, and go to heaven. Our current society would like us to think that if we are just good people, and do good in this life, that we will go to heaven. Jesus is going to say to those people, I never knew you (Matthew 7:23), because if you don’t put your faith in Him, then He does not know you. There will be a lot of surprised people when they hear Him say that to them. Praise God that we don’t have to have Him say that to us, who believe in Him.
