11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? - James 4:11-12 (KJV)
We, who are born again Christians, are not to speak evil of others, no matter what they have done to us, as Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). James called this the “royal law” (James 2:8), and Paul said that loving others will fulfill the entire law (Galatians 5:14), and Jesus gave us a commandment to love one another (John 13:34). God is the only true judge, and we are not to try and judge another person, but we must remember that there is only one God, and it is not us. If we truly have the love of God in us, then we can love others with the AGAPE type of love, as it is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), that all born again believers have in them. Do not speak evil of others, or do evil to them, but just love everyone, as Christ loves us.
James is saying that there is only one lawgiver, and it is God. He is the only one that can save, or destroy, us in the spiritual sense, as He is the creator of all physical things, and is the only one that we should reverence, as He is the only one that can destroy our bodies, and souls, in hell (Matthew 10:28). The devil can come and destroy our bodies, if we give place to him, with sickness, disease, etc. (John 10:10), but only God can send our souls to hell, or to heaven – praise God that the devil can not do that. Give yourself wholly to God (Romans 12:1), study the Word to renew your mind (Romans 12:2), and get to know our heavenly Father, and you will find out what true peace, joy, and love is all about. Thank you Jesus.
