Daily Devotional

December 1

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. - Luke 1:26-27 (KJV)

The “sixth month” is speaking of the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy (the mother of John the Baptist), as shown in other verses (Luke 1:36). This could be the same angel that visited John the Baptist’s Father, Zacharias (Luke 1:11), and announced the coming birth of John. What a marvelous plan, our Father had, to bring about the birth of John, and now arrange for the birth of Jesus, and bring about the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14), that a virgin would give birth to Jesus.

If the bible you read doesn’t say virgin, but says something like young damsel, then you need to get a new bible as the whole Christian faith hangs on the fact that Mary was a virgin. Jesus had to be born of a virgin, and fathered by the Holy Ghost, for Him to be pure, without a sin nature. Our blood comes from the one that fathers us, and God tells us that the life is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), so Jesus had the blood of God flowing through His veins. This is what made Him, “God in the flesh” (1 Timothy 3:16), and was what kept Him from being born with a sin nature, like all the rest of us humans, enabling Him to be the perfect sacrifice to save us. What an awesome thing that our God has done, just to bring us back into relationship with Him (John 17:3). Thank you Lord for our wonderful salvation.
