19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. - Romans 16:19 (KJV)

Our obedience to God’s Word pleases Him, and it should also please all of those that are in His Kingdom here on earth. Paul is saying that we should be wise unto that which is good, and the Greek word translated “wise” here, means to be “clear”. God’s Word (the Holy Bible) gives us knowledge of what is good, and we need to study it so that we will have a clear understanding of what is good. The Greek word translated “simple” in this verse, means “pure”, and Paul is saying that we should stay focused on the things that are good, and not on evil things. God never intended for us humans, to have the knowledge of evil, but Satan convinced Eve that she would be better off if she knew about evil things (Genesis 3:5-6), and that brought sin into the world.

Paul taught at other times about thinking on the good things, and not on the evil ones (Philippians 4:8). We are warned not to think on evil things, as that can only lead us into temptations, and is an inroad of the devil who comes to steal, kill, and destroy us (John 10:10). Since the fall, and evil is in the world, we do have to be aware of it, as it is the device of the devil (2 Corinthians 2:11), but we should not be focused on evil things, just aware of them. Even though we are aware of the evil things people do, we should not talk about them, as it is a shame to do so (Ephesians 5:12). Keep focused upon the things of God, and be aware of the things of the devil, but do not give place to the devil, and stay angry at his evil (Ephesians 4:26-27). Thank God for His instructions to us, His children.
