I didn't say they're not capable of attaining God's mercy. I don't think they have as of yet, but that's between them and God.
That doesn't really follow from what has been written so far in this thread. My initial resistance was against language that suggests ... well, a lot of things, including that we somehow get to judge the righteousness of others, or have a say in who gets saved, or determine the weight of a given sin (pedo, sex assualt, etc.)
We don't get to choose who receives God's mercy, but we're supposed to judge. Jesus judged others, and we're supposed to be Christ-like. But like He said, we're supposed to judge ourselves first, because we're going to be judged by that same measure.
I'm not a child molester, so I feel I can place judgement on people who molest children.
