12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. - Eph 5:12-13 (KJV)
Paul has been teaching Christians to not indulge in ungodly acts, as they now are born again, and should no longer ever do those things (Ephesians 5:3-11). Now he is saying that we should not even speak of those ungodly things that people do in secret, but many Christians think they need to know all about the world’s trash, and get into all the gory details of what the heathens do. We should be aware that non-believers are committing evil deeds, but we should not talk about it with others, and we should not have to know the details of all the ungodly things that people do (1 Corinthians 15:33). It is of no benefit to dwell on the evil actions of people, but we should just reject them from our lives, and try to convert the sinners that do them. We are not sin police, looking for the people that do the ungodly acts, but should pray for them, and try to bring them to Christ with the Gospel.
When we live for Christ, and let our light shine in this dark world, we need to let people know that it is Christ living in us that makes us act like Him (Matthew 5:16). Just living a good life is not enough, if we don’t give God the credit for leading us to live that way. Remember that it is not about us, and how we shine our light, but it is all about Jesus, whose light we are shinning. Give credit to God for all your good actions, and make known the fact that everything good comes from above (James 1:17), giving glory to the Father. Be doers of the Word, and not just hearers (James 1:22), but give the glory to God – praise Him for all our blessings.
