Daily Devotional

October 20

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. - 2 Peter 2:9-10 (KJV)

The Lord does know how to deliver His children out of harm’s way, just as He did for Lot and his family out of Sodom and Gomorrah (2 Peter 2:8), because Lot was righteous. Peter had been talking about being careful to not follow false prophets and teachers (2 Peter 2:1-2), as they will fall under the judgment of God, and you don’t want to be caught in their destruction. Peter and others in the bible, make it clear that false teaching of the Word of God will be judged and punished severely on the Day of Judgment. James wrote that to be a Master (teacher) you would come under greater condemnation (James 3:1), so you should not seek to be one.

The term “walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness” is referring to homosexuality and bestiality, and other sexual perversions, and it leads those people to despise government, both civil and God’s rule. Presumptuous means arrogance, self-willed, stubborn, headstrong, and concerned only with their desires. It leads those people to speak evil of dignities (upstanding or righteous people), as said also in Jude (Jude 1:8-10). It is so true that those that get caught up in something evil almost always lash out at people who are more normal. Our modern culture is accepting sexual perversions as now being normal in our society, saying that evil is good, and good evil, signs of the end times, but God’s Word says differently. God made Adam and Eve and that was His plan for mankind to reproduce and replenish the earth. God loves all of us, but He sure doesn’t love the evil that man does. Thank you Lord for your Word.
