7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. - John 3:7 (KJV)
Jesus had just told Nicodemus that you must be born again to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Being born again is necessary for salvation, but it is only the beginning of your journey toward salvation, as you must work out your salvation with much fear (reverence) and trembling (humbleness) (Philippians 2:12). When you are born again, you have made Jesus your Lord (Romans 10:9-10), and as your Lord, you must follow His commands to assure your salvation (Hebrews 5:9). You need to make yourself a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), and renew your mind with the Word of God (Romans 12:2). This “me” generation finds it very hard to make anyone Lord of our lives, as we want to be our own Lord. This is why Jesus said that few would find the narrow path to salvation (Matthew 7:14), and that many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14).
Even though you are saved when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you must keep Him as your Lord, and follow the leading of the Holy Ghost, to keep your name from being blotted out of the book of life (Revelations 3:5). If you fail to follow Jesus as your Lord, it is blasphemy (rebellion) against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), and can cause a born again Christian to be sent to hell (see “New Revelations” page on our web site). Being born again is the beginning of your Christian life, but you must follow the leading of the Holy Ghost to stay saved. Your works for Jesus, are works of faith, out of love for Him, and not works of the law to earn self-righteousness. Love your Lord Jesus, and follow His leading in your life by obeying Him, so that your salvation will be secure. Thank you Lord for our grace gift of salvation.
