Daily Devotional

October 18

4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. - 1 Peter 2:4-5 (KJV)

Jesus is referred to as the corner stone of the church, and it was prophesied in the Old Testament by Daniel (Daniel 2:34) and Isaiah (Isaiah 28:16), and was said to be the stumbling stone by David (Psalms 118:22-23) and Isaiah (Isaiah 8:14-15). Jesus referred to himself as that stumbling stone (Matthew 21:42). Jesus certainly was the stone that the Jews stumbled over, as they could not accept Him as the Messiah, and rejected Him, and crucified Him. The word precious was translated from a Greek word that means valued, and indeed our Savior was greatly valued, and still is. It is truly amazing that the Jews had been looking for the Messiah to come for a long time, and when Jesus (the Messiah) did come, they missed it completely. It would have been hard to see a normal looking human like Jesus was, and to think that this is God in the flesh, as Jesus was only average in His looks according to Isaiah (Isaiah 53:2).

The body of Christ, those that are born again, make up the foundation of the church, with Jesus our corner stone. What a wonderful fact that we are “an holy priesthood” through our Savior Jesus Christ, and we can come before the throne of God directly, as we are the righteousness of Jesus (Romans 3:21-22). Praise God for His grace gift of salvation, to all those that will believe on Jesus, and make Him their Lord and Savior. Thank you Jesus.
