Daily Devotional

October 9

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21 (KJV)

There are two other times in scripture that we are told to lay aside, or put off, filthiness, and they tell what kind of things we are to lay apart (Colossians 3:8, & 1 Peter 2:1). We are to cease from all evil things when we are born again, as we have been made a new person (2 Corinthians 5:17), and we should no longer desire to live ungodly. If you still want to live for the devil in sin, then you probably were not ever really born again, as your “want to” has not changed. To be truly born again, you must not only believe in Jesus, but you must make Him your Lord, which means you must obey Him (Hebrews 5:9).

We are to receive the word in meekness, humbling ourselves, and submitting ourselves to Jesus as our Lord. When we do those things, then we will be able to save our souls from hell, as long as we don’t blasphemy the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32) or disobey Jesus, which can send a born again believer to hell. To keep our salvation, and be sure that our name is never blotted out of the book of life (Revelations 3:5), we must follow the leading of the Holy Ghost, who gives us direction through our life. You can not just get born again for salvation, as you must make Jesus your Lord, and you must follow His commands and do as He has told us to do, including the works that He did (John 14:12). Thank you Jesus for giving us so much, and bringing us back into relationship with the Father (John 17:3).
